Please check the device manager and see if this lookback adapter is present. After installation, Npcap will create an adapter named Npcap Loopback Adapter for you. Loopback Packet Capture: Npcap is able to sniff loopback packets (transmissions between services on the same machine) by using the Windows Filtering Platform (WFP). It is based on the discontinued WinPcap library, but with improved speed, portability, security, and efficiency. Npcap is the Nmap Project's packet sniffing (and sending) library for Windows. Hi, I am Sherwin, Independent Advisor here to work with you on this issue. The loopback adapter is a dummy network card that is used as a testing tool for virtual network environments where network access is not available or when you want to isolate your testing network from your main network. The latest thing I installed was Team fortress 2 from the Steam store but I don't know why that would cause problems as it's a legitimate version. But I still have Putty and OpenVPN on my system. I do have a few things that I think might have caused it, I'm doing an ethical hacking course and I have installed, then uninstalled Nmap and Metasploit, but haven't touched them and uninstalled them.

The strange thing is that I don't know how it got there and my device isn't plugged into an ethernet connector.

So I'm connected to my home network with no problems but I'm also connected to an Ethernet network called Npcap loopback Adapter. So I opened my windows 10 laptop this morning and noticed that it had a hard time connecting to the steam cloud and the overall internet speed was slower than usual.
